Presentation Topic Abstracts:

1.      Standards in Business Rules:

Since the OMG started its Business Rule working group 3 years ago, the standards scene has developed to encompass semantics for documented rules, production rules in UML, and rule management. Paul Vincent chairs the OMG Production Rule Representation group, which is working on the equivalent of SQL for rule engines, and will give an update on the current state of rule standards in OMG, RuleML, W3C, and BPMI/BPEL, and the possible direction and roadmap for these standards, and why and how the user community can support their development.

2.      Fair Isaac Blaze Advisor: update on Version 6 and Smart Forms:

Fair Isaac’s Blaze Advisor is consistently a leader in the Gartner magic quadrant metric for Business Rule Management Systems, and has been embraced as the core decisioning component in Fair Isaac’s strategic Enterprise Decision Management framework, as well as providing critical rule services for a number of organizations in the NE USA and CT. As a Product Manager for the Blaze Advisor group, Paul Vincent will show the latest features of the new Blaze Advisor 6 release, and show how the one rule, multiple platform architecture is being extended to include the user interface with the new XForms-based Blaze Advisor SmartForms.

The presenter is Paul Vincent, who has held positions in Fair Isaac and its predecessors for over 10 years, including 6 years based in the San Jose headquarters of the rules group working with a variety of US customers. He is currently responsible for the .Net and COBOL variants of Blaze Advisor, and in particular provides Product Management to the European users of Blaze Advisor. In addition he represents Fair Isaac on the standards bodies of OMG and BPMI, and has recently been involved with the W3C. He also occasionally presents to intelligent audiences in the US and Europe, and is delighted to be invited to speak to the COOUG business rule meeting!
